Talent Economics

Where is the organization's talent strategy creating, protecting, suppressing, or destroying economic value?

Understand the business consequences of retention, deployment and talent decisions.

The buyer situation

Talent decisions are business decisions.

An organization can be hiring while capable people remain underused, or losing high performers while advancement paths remain unclear. A talent metric is a starting signal; it is not yet a business case.

Replacement exposure, time to capability, productivity and institutional knowledge may all be affected. A headline turnover rate cannot establish the cost or explain which departures matter most.

Diagnosis

What DJC investigates.

  • Retention patterns, high-performer risk and the credibility of internal advancement paths.
  • Internal mobility, succession, workforce planning and how talent is deployed.
  • Career development, recruiting exposure, knowledge loss and the operational effects of workforce reductions.
Strategy

Choose the intervention that fits the problem.

Map talent decisions to the business variables they may influence. Separate validated costs from assumptions, identify the root causes that can be addressed and prioritize work against the organization’s constraints.

What execution may involve

  • Retention and internal-mobility practices
  • Career development and succession resources
  • Capability and talent-deployment plans
  • Manager communication and implementation support
  • Knowledge-transfer and workforce-transition practices

These are possibilities for scoping, not a fixed bundle of deliverables.

Measurement

Make progress observable.

Relevant measures may include retention patterns, internal fill rates, time to capability and agreed productivity indicators. The comparison period and data owner should be explicit.

A change in a people metric does not by itself prove a revenue effect. Financial interpretation must distinguish actual expense, avoided cost, released capacity and attribution limits.

Relevant situations

Fit and scope depend on the business problem, available data, stakeholders, implementation constraints and resources.
